Why We Started Book Works

Our obsession with helping fiction writers reach their audience.

The idea for Book Works came to us one day over coffee—one of those long, caffeine-fueled conversations that starts with books and winds its way through everything from our favorite novels to the challenges facing today’s writers. As lifelong friends, book club enthusiasts, and industry pros—a book coach and a marketing expert—we've spent years talking about the stories that move us and the authors behind them.

That day, though, the conversation took a different turn. Nicole was frustrated.

Nicole’s incredible novel-writing clients had poured so much of themselves into crafting strong manuscripts, but by the end, they were staring down a whole new mountain: how to create a meaningful author platform, how to reach agents, and how to find or build a writing and reading community that felt like home.

There was no clear map to follow—just a lot of conflicting advice and a growing sense that they were supposed to do everything if they wanted a shot at success. It didn’t feel fair, and it definitely didn’t feel sustainable.

That’s when we realized: what if we could be the bridge between writing the book and getting it into readers’ hands? What if we could combine our skills and passions—book coaching, branding, and a deep love for great stories—to help writers build platforms that actually feel good, pitch with confidence, and find readers who can’t wait to dive in?
